Alrighty, lesson 4: Post traumatic stress disorder. This is a really serious disorder that many of our nations hero’s are coming back from war with. I heard from a guy in my psychology class that when they came back from Iraq they have to see a counselor about it. It’s insane how many vet’s have/and get it. So, to begin PTSD does fall under the anxiety disorder umbrella, and it’s scary stuff for the guy who has it. I hope this blog will help you better understand how serious this is, and I ask that you please don’t brush it off as being made it cause it totally isn’t. I’m not saying you will but I know people who do. As some of you don’t know PTSD can happen at any time, even when someone’s a kid. It’s is usually caused by a traumatic event. Such as war, a natural disaster (Hurricane Katrina is a good example), or being in an abusive relationship. It would be common for someone who was married to a wife beater to be diagnosed. The symptoms of PTSD are as follows: Anxiety, depression, re-experiencing the event (recurring thoughts, memories, dreams, or nightmares), avoidance (they might avoid people or activities that will remind them of what happened. For instance someone who just got back from war probably wouldn’t want to go paint balling), reduced responsiveness (liked having depression they would feel detached from people), and finally they might feel a increased arousal, anxiety or guilt. Meaning that they are easily startled. Here’s a story for you- when my great-uncle was in World War II he was gassed in a gas chamber. When he got home from the war he would hear something like thunder, or a gunshot and he would physically throw my great-aunt on the floor and tell her to get down that she was going to get shot. He died shortly after...that story doesn’t exactly have a happy ending but this isn’t a happy disorder.
Here’s a fun fact: Women are at least twice as likely as men to develop a stress disorders (including PTSD). This is because 20% of women who are exposed to such an event will be diagnosed, compared to 8% of men. To prevent trauma, Japan even has “women only” subway cars.
Alright, that was blog number 4!!
there are sooooooo many things like this we take lightly. stuff like paralysis, starvation, every disease and disorder out there has stories just like your great uncle. and most people dont care because if your not directly affected by something chances are you wont give a crap. i mean you prolly dont give any thought to TB patients or say colon cancer. just shooting in the dark here, you might haha but point is, most(i'll call them) sufferings dont cross our minds because we're not directly affected. that is favoratism to a certain type of suffering and i dont believe favoratism is ever good. my opinion is if we care about one type of suffering we should care about them all. not the "oh i care about starving children tahts horrible" but actually doing something care ya know? and to do that it helps to look at the big picture, every single suffering in the world has one thing in common. they are all children of Sin. there is no suffering in heaven because there is no sin in heaven. god said in the bible "if you do things my way good things will happen" and he names off the good things that will happen "but if you dont bad things will happen. trust me i made this earth i know how it works. its not that im making the bad things happen or letting them happen its just how the world works the only way it could be different is if i made you all mindless robots" maybe not those exact words but to sum it up >< but we as a nation and a planet are making bad decisions that is deciding to sin. sin is simply transgression of the law. god gave us 10 commandments and written them on everyones heart, so we cant plead ignorance on this one. we know its wrong to steal, we know its wrong to lie, to murder and yet we disobey everyday and expect everything in our little worlds to be peachy keen. and we arent islands our sin effects everyone around us and also people that arent around us it goes farther than we can imagine! its a domino effect say my mom catches me in a lie and is less trusting, so she dosent trust my sister for no reason, my sister is hurt that mom dosent trust her for no reason, takes it out on corey, corey gets angry and fires off back at amy, hurts their relationship and i dident even know what i did. and it can go on longer than we know. so really the reason that little kid in africa is dying of hunger could be (prolly is) because you and i cant stop our sin. seems pretty heavy but its true and i know god says everyone will sin becasue we are just humans but that shouldent stop us from seeing ourselves for what we truly are murderers, liars, thieves, fornicators, blasphemors every one of us. and it takes the amazing mercy of a great god to keep from anhilating us everday we live. point is... we are not good. becasue we are not good bad things happen. we are not an island when bad thigns happen to us they happen to our family, our friends, people we dont even know. so the only way to really make a difference in the world is get good! become righteous, meaning to get right with god. repent! not just "im sorry for what i did" but turn from it! "im horribly sorry because i see what i have done and im not gonna do it anymore" and put your trust in god. read the bible and believe its promises. thats the only way we can make an ounce of difference. repent of our sin and trust in god.
